The 5th Philippine Ecotourism 101 held virtually on September 13 to 16 2022 was a success with participants from around the country coming from local government units, provincial government offices, DOT regional offices, the academe and the private sector.
The main trainers were tourism planning consultants Chen Reyes – Mencias, EnP and Louie F. Mencias. Jerish Alcoy, a local tour guide and a full-time visual artist from Batanes, also shared how the Mataws proved that adding an economic component to heritage conservation works when they opened their community for visitors to witness a solemn and rare fishing ritual to raise funds to support the ritual.
Attendees appreciated the information they gained from the training including the concepts, tools, principles, and strategies which they can use to plan and establish pilot sites for community-based sustainable tourism.
